Dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children, Willowbrae Academy provides an enriched educational curriculum using leading-edge technology to set new standards for security, communication, and operations.
Meeting the individual needs and interests of a child is our number one priority.
Our Programs
Through our unique programs Willowbrae Young Scholars, Body Break KID FIT, and Willowbrae Creative Kids, children learn to express themselves, engage in individual and group interactions and use classroom materials purposefully and productively.
Our Curriculum
Willowbrae Academy’s curriculum is the heart of what we provide for our children. The curriculum is based on three proven methods of learning: Montessori, High Scope and Emergent. Through our customized developmental programs, our activities are linked to specific learning areas ensuring parents that each activity has purpose.
Montessori
Montessori focuses on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. Children choose how they want to learn.
High Scope
High Scope supports the belief that children learn the best when they participate actively in the learning process. Active participatory learning is a partnership between teachers and children.
Emergent
Emergent is a curriculum based on the child and teacher's interest and passion. Flexibility and creativity are key compounds.
Our Classes
Willowbrae Academy offers programs to families for infants to school age children. We recognize that all children are unique individuals and offer programs within a fully inclusive learning environment that assists children in reaching their full potential and endeavors to meet their every need.
Learning Areas
At Willowbrae Academy, our responsibility to the children in our care is to make every day a new experience and challenge. Our curriculum includes key learning areas designed to enable children to learn about themselves, others and the world around them.
Social Skills and Diversity
Children are exposed to a socially inclusive and culturally sensitive environment, where social responsibility is nurtured. Children are taught to respect diversity and appreciate their own uniqueness and that of others. Children learn how to be emphatic, co-operative, helping, and how to develop friendships.
Emotional Skills
Children experience a safe and caring environment where their emotional health, positive self-identities and sense of belonging are fostered. Children develop a sense of self and a sense of others. Children learn to form trusting, respectful relationships.
Cognitive Abilities
Children experience open and flexible environments where playful exploration and problem solving are encouraged. Children test their limits, learn the dynamics of working together, and develop different strategies to identify and work out problems. Children also learn to question, observe and inquire about the world around them.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Children experience intellectually, socially and culturally engaging environments where their speech, language, literacy and social communication skills are valued and supported. These skills are developed through classroom activities, peer interaction, and active play.
Physical Health
Children experience safe and caring environments where physical health and positive lifestyle choices are promoted and encouraged. Children explore body and movement, develop gross and fine motor skills, learn about food and nutrition, and are taught to take responsibility for personal care.
Imagination and Creativity
Children are exposed to open and flexible environments where imagination and creativity are encouraged through dramatic play, music, dance, arts and crafts. Children create imaginary scenarios in which they explore new possibilities. Children are encouraged to create something new and original.
Bright Minds, New Technology
Open communication between parents and Willowbrae Academy staff is fundamental to the success of your child’s care. Braeview is our exclusive on-line communication software for parents and staff, ensuring that you are always aware of what your child is doing while in our care.
Meet Our Director Heidi Streeter
Hello, I’m Heidi Streeter, and I’m thrilled to be the director here at Willowbrae Academy of Colorado Springs. I bring over 15 years of experience in early childhood education, including 13 years as a director. My background includes coursework in Early Childhood Education and Social Work at Pikes Peak State College, an EQIT certificate, and I am proud to be Level 4 qualified in Colorado Shines PDIS as well as director qualified in the state of Colorado.
I began my career as a teacher and have grown through many roles—team lead, assistant director, mentor director, and administrative assistant—each experience shaping my leadership style and passion for early childhood education. One of my proudest achievements was helping open a brand-new childcare center, where we more than doubled enrollment in the first month.
I chose to join Willowbrae Academy because it represents something new and exciting in the United States, and I am honored to be part of launching this vision here in Colorado Springs. My philosophy of child development centers on play-based learning, supporting the whole child, and nurturing social-emotional growth—values that Willowbrae Academy embodies every day.
I believe that strong staff leadership helps create a workplace where everyone feels valued and proud of the important work we do. Family partnerships are equally important—they are the foundation of a child’s success, and I am committed to fostering safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments for all.
My journey into early childhood education began after having my second child. I wanted a career that would allow me to be present for my children while still fulfilling my professional goals, and early childhood education has given me that balance. Building relationships with families and seeing the smiles of children inspire me every day.
I live here in Colorado Springs with my three children, my English Bulldog Violet, and my three ferrets—Coco, Moose, and Fiona. When I’m not at work, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and hiking the beautiful Colorado trails.
I look forward to welcoming your family to our community here at Willowbrae Academy. Please stop by and say hello!
